Community Missions
“Void Hunters are…
many things.”
– Jonathan Pineman
OVERVIEW
Community Missions, also known as Void Hunter Missions, are undertaken as the player’s primary focus in Community Building, and are split into two categories: Classic Missions and Special Operations.
Material Acquisition Missions (Classic)
Resource Gather
The Material Acquisition Mission (commonly called Resource Gathering by the player-base) is a Classic mission type with an objective focused on the collection of resources for a particular project cause.
When a community need is identified by Angela, it is reported back to the player through Jon’s Smart Watch interface before registering as a new Community Objective at the start of the Wake period. This community need is typically a Renovation Project, and may include the construction of:
- Lightrooms
- Greenhouses
- Farmhouses
- Medical Centers
- Community Centers
Each Renovation Project requires the player to independently explore the Void for unique resources. When the mission is assigned, Angela will list several basic materials that will need to be collected. These may include, but are not limited to:
- Duct tape
- Wood Planks
- Dark Cloth
- Cardboard
- Rope
- Miscellaneous Cables
- Lightbulbs
- Batteries
- Car Batteries
- Propane Tank
- Gas Cannister
- Holy Water
- Soil
- Mixed Animal Feed
- Seeds
- Sleep Supplements
- First Aid Kit
- Bandages
- Syringes
- Medicine
The player will then need to collect all materials requested. Once Angela’s list of basic materials are collected, the player will then return to Jon’s Lightroom. Once inside, Jon can call Angela and inform her of the mission’s completion. Upon mission completion, items will be removed from the inventory automatically.
Triple C Mission (Classic)
Clear, Clean, Cleanse or Clear, Clean(se), Consecrate
The Triple C Mission (also known as Clear, Clean, Cleanse, and then later on as Clear, Clean(se), Consecrate) is a Classic mission type with an objective focused on the recovery of abandoned buildings to be repurposed for Renovation Projects.
Triple C Missions have three stages in their earliest variation, and four stages in their completed form after forming an alliance with House of God. Triple C Missions are assigned at the start of the Wake period. Upon receiving a Triple C Mission assignment, Angela will inform Jon that a new location has been decided on for their Renovation project based on the results of his last Exploration Mission (see below). The player must then venture to the site.
A Triple C Mission requires several roles to be filled in order for all stages to be brought to completion. The stages and roles are listed below.
| Clear (Stage 1) | A Void Hunter is in charge of entering a building and clearing all Spawn still occupying it in order to make it safe for renovation. |
| Clean (Stage 2) | A Cleaner (or multiple Cleaners) is sent into the now clear building in order to provide clean up. Clean up includes removing corpses of Spawn and of deceased people from the building, and washing away remains. |
| Cleanse (Stage 3) | A Lightworker or Exorcist is sent into the now clean building and purifies the space with Holy Water and prayer, removing all lingering energetic contaminants and preventing future occupants from contracting Void Rot. |
| Consecrate (Stage 4) | An Exorcist is sent into the now cleansed building and consecrates the space with Holy Water, prayer, and ritual in order to create Hallowed Ground, preventing the generation of future Spawn in designated radius, even in total darkness., |
Jon alone can fulfill three (3) roles once he has learned Purify from Aurora. However, he will not Clean, as he cannot endure removing corpses from the space. When the building is clear, Jon can report to Angela to confirm assignment completion. If all other roles are filled, Jon will be permitted to leave as soon as Stage 2 is completed, meaning the primary incentive towards training the other occupations is a boost to time-management in the Wake period.
Incident Relief Mission (Classic)
Rescue and Restore
The Incident Relief Mission (also known as the Rescue Mission to Void Hunters) is a Classic mission type with an objective focused on the rescue of community members and the recovery of community buildings when attacked by Spawn.
Unlike the Material Acquisition Mission and the Triple C Mission which are assigned at the start of the Wake period, assignments to Incident Relief Missions occur randomly and interrupt all activities occurring in the meantime, including, rarely, the Sleep period. As soon as they are assigned, the player will have ten seconds to orient themselves before automatically being deployed to the site of an ongoing incident.
The Incident Relief Mission is split into two phases: Rescue and Restoration.
When the mission begins, Rescue is lead by a Void Hunter or a team of Void Hunters (also known as the Rescue Team) and is split into three (3) stages:
| Secure Exterior (Stage 1) | A Void Hunter advances aggressively to clear the building exterior of Spawn. |
| Secure Interior (Stage 2) | A Void Hunter clears the interior of the building of Spawn presence, starting with the first floor. |
| Secure Community Members (Stage 3) | A Void Hunter makes contact with community members and escorts them safely from the building, re-entering as necessary and neutralizing new threats until all community members are evacuated. |
Once stage 3 is completed, the operation moves onto the second part, Restoration, and is passed on to the Restoration Team. During this phase, several other occupations step in to restore the damage done to the community. Cleaners, Lightworkers, and Exorcists are deployed to tackle the remaining stages of what is a reprised Triple C Mission, while Medical Attendants treat wounded community members. After the building is fully cleaned, cleansed, and consecrated, Builders and Handymen are deployed to fix all structural damages.
For all intents and purposes, an Incident Relief Mission is considered finished when the Rescue phase has been brought successfully to completion. When finished, Jon can report to Angela, to confirm assignment completion. Jon is permitted to leave as soon as the Medical Attendants reach the wounded, and the Cleaners have finished cleaning the building.
Unfortunately, Jon will not be teleported back to his previous location before mission start, and must exit the site of the incident and navigate back.
Escort Mission (Classic)
Protect During Crossings
The Escort Mission is a Classic mission type with an objective focused on the protection of non-combatant travelers undertaking Void Crossings.
Escort Missions are assigned at the start of the Wake period. Upon receiving an Escort Mission assignment, Angela will inform Jon of a rendezvous point where he will meet his Caravan, and their destination location. Jon must then venture to the rendezvous point, which most often is a primary community building (such as the Primary Greenhouse or the Primary Community Center).
Once united with his Caravan, the player must lead the company out into the Void and towards their destination through a route of their own design. Occasionally, the Caravan will run into tricky situations that require the player to select between different QTE prompts to give whispered call-outs. If a QTE is failed or the incorrect call-out given, a Caravan member will make a mistake, attracting attention. The player will then have to protect the Caravan from Spawn until the area is cleared. Once the Caravan has been rescued, the team progresses forward.
If any member of the Caravan dies during the Crossing, the mission is considered failed and must be restarted from the Rendezvous point.
An Escort Mission is considered finished when Jon and the Caravan safely arrive at their destination. When the Caravan has arrived, Jon can report to Angela to confirm assignment completion. Jon will be permitted to leave as soon as the assignment is completed.
Exploration Mission (Special Operations)
Explore Locations for Renovation
The Exploration Mission is a Special Operations mission type with an objective focused on the exploration and investigation of possible locations useful for Renovation Projects.
The Exploration Mission should not be confused with independent player exploration, as the Mission title is assigned exclusively to Community Objectives, rather than to Jon’s personal Objectives.
Exploration Missions are assigned at the start of the Wake period. Upon receiving an Exploration Mission assignment, Angela will give Jon a list of locations under consideration for their next Renovation project. This list will be paired with a second list of features to take notes on. Jon must then venture to each individual location and explore them until all notes are taken.
An Exploration Mission is considered finished when Jon has explored all locations. Once all locations are explored, Jon can report to Angela to confirm assignment completion and send her his notes.
Research Mission (Special Operations)
Investigate Constructs
The Research Mission is a Special Operations mission type with an objective focused on the exploration and investigation of dangerous and unknown Constructs generated by the Void.
Research Missions are initially introduced by Angela and the first two Research Missions in the game are assigned by her. However, all subsequent Research Missions are assigned by Jon to himself and the VHSO (or Void Hunter Special Operations team) when the player stumbles across an unexplored Construct. The VHSO is a small team consisting exclusively of Jonathan Pineman, Henry Bridgewell, Lily Calloway, Danielle Sterling, and Hudson Riggs.
Research Missions are assigned upon the discovery of a new unexplored Construct, and can be explored during the Free-Time portion of the Wake period or on a Day Off, which becomes more common by the time Research Missions are undertaken by the VHSO. It should be noted that the investigation of Constructs is extremely dangerous, and it is not recommended to deploy the VHSO on a Research Mission without proper resources or an Energy Gauge that is less than full. Construct exploration may also interfere with Needs Management severely otherwise, as they cannot be exited prematurely.
When deployed on a Research Mission, the team will gather and debrief together during a cutscene. When the cutscene is complete, the team will engage the Construct, lead by Jon. A Research Mission’s is considered complete when the team has decided to exit the Construct and successfully does so. Once completed, the team will have to debrief at the neared primary community building.
If any member of the VHSO dies during the Construct investigation, the mission is considered failed and must be restarted from the Construct’s defined entrance. All completed Research Missions are followed by the creation of a new video for the Void Hunter Survival Guide and are considered keys to story progression.
